Hitchcock had Psycho. Alan Turing had “On Computable Numbers”. Beethoven had the Ninth, second moment. And The Two Guys have SQIV, the best written and produced graphic adventure game — ever. Mean it.
Space Quest IV was obviously a huge change for the Space Quest series and while a lot of people might regard it as a sort of pinnacle for Space Quest I think the game is missing most of the charm of the previous Space Quest games. I don’t think it’s necessarily a move forward for Space Quest, despite the new level of animation and the attractive addition of voice actors and a narrative. Those things alone couldn’t replace some of the subtle charms of the first 3 games, for me.
I think Space Quest V was a better job at moving Space Quest into point and click adventure gaming, but I’ll talk more about that on the SQ V page.
